“…no matter how much we accomplish in our careers, it is the accomplishments of those we teach that defines us.”
This is clearly the mantra of long time breeders and experts on Gypsy Vanner Horses – Dave and Carmel Baird of River Lane Ranch (www.riverlaneranch.com).
River Lane Ranch in Edmonton, Alberta specializes in breeding Gypsy Vanner horses for the show ring, for working homes, and for their specialized “Healing with Horses” program. The Bairds help people overcome difficulties using the healing power of horses.
After developing a close relationship with the owners over a number of years, River Lane Ranch recently took ownership of the legendary North Fork herd (www.northforkhorses.ca) after the North Fork owners announced retirement in 2020. River Lane Ranch will continue the legacy of the North Fork breeding program and continue to pass along the knowledge and experience they have gathered over the years breeding world champion Gypsy Vanners.
The Bairds have been instrumental in helping to educate new and passionate Gypsy lovers on the breed and the business. “We couldn’t have formed such an amazing foundation to our breeding program without their help” comments Aimee from Ponderosa Ridge Ranch. “One day I hope to be in a place where I can mentor new and passionate ranch owners who are interested in furthering amazing Gypsy bloodlines.”
As a relatively new breed in North America, there are still only a handful of breeders of Gypsy Vanners in Canada. Ponderosa Ridge Ranch is poised to help match future Gypsy owners with their next partner and perhaps train the next generation of Gypsy breeders.
The picture displayed at the top of this post is Judge coming home at 4 months old. He had no problem in the trailer or stopping for a quick stretch on the side of the road. This is indicative of the breed. Super easy going.
