It’s every little girl’s dream to own the “prettiest horse ever” – a sturdy, thick-boned, romantic, black and white stallion with a long flowing mane that nearly reaches the ground. Feathered legs make him stand out from other horses as if he belongs in a fairy tale or to some runaway princess. He is the type of horse that attracts a crowd of admirers wherever he goes.
A Gypsy Vanner stallion is almost mystical as he canters across a grassy field, floating above the ground. It is puzzling how a breed often referred to as the “Golden Retrievers of Horses” can be so powerful with a commanding presence, yet unintimidating with a sweet, loyal, and extraordinary temperament.
It was this docile temperament that drew the owner of Ponderosa Ridge Ranch to her first Gypsy horse. The story of the Gypsy horses of Ponderosa Ridge Ranch begins when Aimee was introduced to her first Gypsy Vanner Horse – “I was told how affectionate they are to humans. It wasn’t until I owned my first Gypsy and created a bond that I realized I’ve never experienced an equine relationship quite like this.”
After meeting and bringing home her second Gypsy colt “RLR The Guardian,” Aimee became hooked on the breed and there was no looking back.
“Guardian is true to his name and fiercely loyal. He loves his humans and will leave his hay pile to follow me around the yard. We nicknamed him “Titan The Defender” because we know this colt will always have our back. We love the Gypsy breed and can’t wait to share it with the world!”
Bringing home North Fork Woolly Mammoths Legacy who has already participated in and won a trifecta for halter class, lunge line and trail in hand as a yearling, will be the highlight of the year for Ponderosa Ridge Ranch. Legacy will pass along his thick bone and feather as well as impressive parentage in his foals. Starting out with an exceptional foundation will set up the legacy of Ponderosa Ridge Gypsies for years to come.
